Political Cartoon Posted in Illustrations

Although we’re already over 150 days into the Obama presidency, I figured “better late than never” in regards to a vector illustration I had started a few months ago. I finally put the finishing touches on it and uploaded it to the Illustrations section of my site today.

I typically wouldn’t publicly show work of such a political nature, but I wound up putting more effort into this parody piece (based upon the now-famous “HOPE” by Shepard Feirey, see Fig. 2 below) than I had originally intended, and thought it’d be a shame to never let it see the light of day.

I created custom gradient maps for photoshop and custom pattern files for Illustrator, and drew every piece in Illustrator by hand. Great pen tool practice.
