In the interest of learning more about how to stretch the limitations of image resolution and my camera’s capabilities, I shot three more sets of landscape photos to be stitched into panoramas in post. These were all taken with my trusty Canon SD1000, without a tripod, from the the balconies of the 5th floor rental of Flores Ocean Suites in Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach, Florida. All were then stitched together with Adobe Photoshop CS4‘s Photomerge automation, using the “automatic” setting with Blend, Vignette Removal, and Gemotric Distortion Correction enabled.
Composed of five photos, taken on October 20th from the East balcony. The temperature had been high for this time of year (even by typical Florida standards) up until this week, when it suddenly dropped. There were still some surfers out before lunch.
Composed of four photos, taken on October 22nd from the same position. The sky was much clearer as the weather continued to cool. Not as many people out in the morning, but lots more here in the middle of the day. In lieu of surfers in the shot, you can see a Carnival cruise ship leaving Port Canaveral and heading South East for the Bahamas. It moved surprisingly quickly, almost entirely out of sight over the horizon in less than a half hour.
The third photo was taken from the West-most point of the North balcony on the somewhat rainy night of October 21st. Windy, too — The wind whipped around the North East corner of the building so swiftly, you almost couldn’t stand up in that spot on the balcony. Given all that (and no tripod), I was still able to get a five decently-focused night shots.
