Much of east central Florida (5 county area) was shrouded in a dense fog today. I took a bicycle ride around my neighborhood in Merritt Island and got some photos of the scenery. It was an unusual sight, which is a little surprising given how we’re (as the word “Island” implies…) totally surrounded by water. Where the fog really settled in, 15 foot tall tree lines on the road’s edge appeared as miles-tall mountains on the horizon, light-posts became illuminated needle-like monsters emerging from the mist, and as far as the eye could see down-river was shortened from several miles to just several feet.

Fig. 3: From the bike path along North Banana River Drive, looking North West. I took a couple shots here, but this was the best one. The stadium lights on the football/soccer field looked so ominous (Google Street View).
Fig. 4: From the South East point of the marina, looking South East. Normally you could see for several miles, here everything is blanketed in white as dawn sets (Google Street View).

I could feel the vapor droplets on my face as I rode down the sidewalk, and in my throat as I inhaled. My glasses would fog over instantly, so I had to just make due without them for the most part. Haven’t seen fog like this in many years.
